During this truly transformational retreat, you will learn how to restore your own peace of mind. Turn stress, anxiety or depression into self-control and greater serenity using Mindfulness Mastery techniques and Meditation.

Step away from your busy life to deeply relax whilst taking greater control of your mind.

These retreats are designed to help you relax, refresh and revive at many levels as a human being. You will be learning to skilfully and comfortably use the practical and powerful techniques of Mindfulness Meditation and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR).

The techniques, when combined with Buddhist principles, are extremely effective for relieving stress, restoring a more balanced and peaceful mind, calming emotions, developing your mental-emotional resilience and improving overall happiness. You do not need any prior meditation experience as sessions are suitable for all levels of experience. These retreats welcome novice and experienced meditators. There is availability for Massage Treatments on the Saturday and Sunday: you can email to book in advance, or decide on the Friday when you arrive.

Travel to the retreat space is organised by each participant. However if you let us know your arrival times in advance, we may be able to collect you from Battle station nearby.



Meditation Retreat Schedule

Below is a typical Autumn-Winter schedule that is slightly flexible depending on participant requirements.

During the retreat, you will enjoy varied sessions of meditation, stress-reduction, relaxation techniques, buddhist philosophy, chi-gong as well as breathing fresh air, walking in countryside and seaside. Participate in as much or as little as you like.

Day 1 - Friday

Arrival 5pm onwards for 7pm start. We may start earlier, depending on arrival times. If you need to arrive LATER on the Friday night (after 7pm but before 11pm, or Saturday morning) there is a possibility to catch up individually where necessary. Email to discuss in advance.

Beautiful Location

Our retreat location for the Meditation Retreats is a Georgian farmhouse just outside the peaceful village of Battle Abbey, in the heart of East Sussex. The gorgeous scenery, idyllic pond and magnificent walks make it a wonderfully comfortable, intimate and serene retreat location.

Your Room with a View

Prices are based on sharing. Should you require or prefer a non-sharing room, there is a supplement of £100 for the weekend.

Each of the seven bedrooms (five twin, two double/single) has been decorated with peaceful, gentle vintage shades to make you feel even more relaxed and comfortable. Most of the rooms are ensuite, or you’ll have your own private bathroom just down the hall.

Open House

The living room is all comfy sofas and cushions with a big open fireplace and lots of interesting magazines and books to read.

The dining room, a lovely double windowed room with views out onto the gardens, has a long dining table where everyone can sit and enjoy meals together, candle–lit in the evening.

Plus, of course, there’s relaxation space, massage treatment space and breathtaking gardens, for you to use while you’are here.

What to Wear

The more relaxed, the better for this retreat .... jeans, tracksuit, warm jumper and anything you feel warm, relaxed and comfy for seating, meditation sessions, self-relflection and walking. Meal times are informal and restful.

Meals

Enjoy healthy, balanced and tasty vegetarian meals with a meat option, to encourage a lighter feeling in the digestive system for optimising meditation sessions. No alcohol during retreat, as it's an opportunity to transform your relationship with food and drink items that have perhaps been holding you back from feeling and looking amazing and full of vitality.

Snacks, tea, water and juice are all provided. You can also take part in a few healthy juicing sessions so you can try out lots of fruit & vegetable combinations! An excellent way to kick-start a detox, if you want!



Travel

By train the closest station is Battle in East Sussex (travelling towards Hastings) around 75mins from London. Then it is just a short 10mins taxi ride to the retreat venue.

We can email driving and travel directions or advise on train tavel and transfers, should you need help.




Meditation Teachers

There are usually two to three very experienced meditation teachers and practitioners on each retreat and between 10 - 14 participants. The main teacher is the founder of The Happiness Centre or one our very experienced comparable collegues, such as meditation master, David Giles when he is in UK from Sydney.

Alexis Garnaut-Miller is originally from Australia, has lived in Thailand and UK along with travelling and meditating extensively in places such as India, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam. These experiences have all contributed to her journey as a Buddhist teacher/writer, Vedic Meditation teacher, Mindfulness Meditation instructor.

This has complemented a career as an international Human Resources consultant, specialising in leadership development and healthy high performance for Employees across diverse organisations such as PWC, Marks & Spencer, EMI Music, Universal Music, NHS, HSBC, Barclays.

Alexis has appeared on BBC TV, Radio and other media as an expert on Happiness, since founding The Happiness Centre 10 years ago. She is a counsellor, therapist and meditation mentor for numerous high-profile CEOs and celebrities, all facing common human challenges: reducing stress, improving effectiveness, improving professional/personal results, learning how to create happiness by changing their mind/feelings/behaviours, and mastering the art of meditation.
